About Me

Tania had speech therapy as a child and decided then that she wanted to do the same job. Over thirty years since qualifying, she still loves her work, helping children with their talking. She graduated with a dual qualification in Speech and Language Therapy and Audiology in 1991 from the University of Cape Town in South Africa.

Since moving to the UK in 1994 she has worked for the NHS, education settings, local authorities, social service providers and the third sector, both as a volunteer and in paid roles. Tania has seen children of all ages, from preschoolers in homes and nurseries, children in mainstream schools, special schools and units, teenagers in secondary as well as young people in college. Tania works with a wide range of needs and specialised in working with children with hearing impairment, gaining British Sign Language level 3 qualification.

Tania worked in Scotland as a Clinical Lead for a large geographical area and was part of the working party that implemented neonatal hearing screening. After moving to England she worked in Surrey and London with children and young people who had a range of complex needs, including hearing loss, multisensory impairment, physical impairment, autism, learning difficulties, communication aids (AAC), selective mutism and Developmental Language Disorder.

Tania is an Elklan tutor and has run over twenty courses in the UK and abroad. The experience of teaching these has added to her work with the adults who support children with communication needs. School staff and parents are crucial for enabling the best progress, and Tania works closely with them, to ensure an optimal outcome.

Tania enjoyed her time working in the NHS, but since 2010 she has worked as an independent therapist, to balance family and work. Tania is a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council and a member of the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice.
